Attach the white pom pom to the top of the hat. Fold it in half and glue it on. I don’t know if the geese will get fat, but I’m sure. Cool days and long nights mean I slow down and eat more meals. After all, one has to stay warm. So, I decided to go for a walk in the forest.
I ended up coming home with a basket of pine cones. (Yes, the other one, I can’t help it.) You can check out some of the more practical things I did with the first basket and learn some fun ways to use pine cones in the home and garden.
I thought of all the lovely Christmas decorations I could make with a basket of my little evergreens. So I went online looking for ideas.

I love evergreens – pine, spruce, fir, hemlock. If it smells like a mountain, or you can hang ornaments on it, I’m probably in the woods somewhere, sticking my nose in and picking up needles or cones. You’ll be amazed at all the things you can do with pine needles.
If they made a balsamic needle mattress, I’d buy it. (If so, please give me a link, I will always love you.)

True pine cones, at least, the ones we want, come only from pine trees. I know, this sounds obvious, but if you’re looking for pine cones in the wild, it helps to know which trees to look for.
The easiest way to tell a pine tree apart from other evergreens is by looking at the needles. Pine needles always grow in clusters. Generally, two or three needles will grow from a single point on the tree.
The needles of spruce and fir are attached to the branches separately. However, once you get that close, you either see the pinecones on the ground, or you don’t.
The easiest way to identify pines and other evergreens from a distance is by looking at their general shape and the way their branches hang down. Fir and fir trees have the classic conical Christmas tree shape. Pine trees are usually rounder and less symmetrical (like mine). The branches of pine trees usually grow upwards and have fewer branches than spruce and fir.
Pine Cone Crafts For Christmas
Now go out and pick up some pine cones. Don’t forget to bring your package too. Place them on a lined baking sheet and bake at 230°F for about half an hour, until they are fully open. In any case, it’s best to cook the pinecones to kill the insects before using them in crafts.
With all of this in mind; some people live where pine trees don’t grow. For you, I recommend searching for pine cones on Amazon.
Another evergreen that produces cones suitable for crafts is the Oriental Hemlock. This flat needle-like evergreen tree is responsible for producing hundreds of tiny, soft, thornless cones.
Hemlock cones are great for crafts, and if you have them in your area, I highly recommend collecting them. As a last resort, you can buy it here.
How To Make Pine Cone Christmas Trees: 2 Ways
Sprinkle as much silver salt or aurora salt as you like in the Epsom salts. I find that a 6:1 ratio of Epsom salts to glitter powder provides the perfect shine. Mix the two lightly with a fork. You can even skip the glitter if you want a more neutral snow.
I made a fairly large batch, I used every last ounce of restraint, and I didn’t have to spray every flat surface in my apartment.
This project is much prettier than those overly scented pine cones that hit the market in the fall. You can also choose your favorite scent and personalize your pine cones with your favorite holiday essential oils.
Place the pine cones in a gallon-sized plastic bag. Mix a few drops of your favorite essential oil or a blend of several oils into a few tablespoons of a neutral carrier oil, such as grapeseed or almond oil, in a small spray bottle. Spray the pine cones in the bag. Now close the bag and shake well. This ensures that the oil is evenly distributed among the pine cones. Let the pinecones sit in the bag for about a week.
Diy Pine Cone Christmas Tree
Place pine cones in decorative bowls around your home and add other holiday decorations such as gold vases, beads or bells.
When setting a festive table, don’t forget to use pine cones as centerpieces. No matter your decorating style, you can easily put together a festive table setting.
This centerpiece is held together by a mirrored tray topped with natural pine cones, pearl accents and greenery. For a clean, minimal style, try this one.
If you want to make sure you have enough room for the sauce, grab a bowl or basket and fill it with pine nuts, greens, bell peppers, and red berries.
Christmas Joy With Handmade Decor
Just a few minutes before the company arrives? Keep things simple. Fill a small mason jar with some fake snow (either Epsom salt or kosher kosher salt), put a pinecone in one, a tea light in another one or two, and put some frosted pinecones around them. Voila, instant hub.
Natural, traditional, charming, primitive, farmhouse – whatever your decorating style, you can make a pinecone wreath to complement your decor.
Decorate your front door with a pine cone wreath. You can go all out and create a wreath made entirely of pinecones, or use them as accents. The best part is that you can use it as a centerpiece. Simply place a few candles or a pillar candle in the center and place a hurricane ball on top. Here are some ideas to get you going
