Chic Black Bridesmaid Dresses
Our editors come from a variety of backgrounds and are experts in the field of marriage. We are proud of our work and very proud to be a part of this journey.
When you think of top wedding dress designers, few—if any—color faces come to mind. There is no shortage of talent in the major chart rooms, but there is a lack of diversity.
“A few black producers are at the forefront of this industry. Amsale’s departure made the loss even worse,” said Andrea Pitter of Pantora Bridal, a salon that serves Black. The late designer Amsale Aberra not only rocked the industry with her designs, she was also a fashion icon when she entered the industry in the 80s, creating stunning dresses for young brides. At the time, Aberra was the only leading black designer in the bridal industry.
As a black woman and business owner, Pitter saw the gap firsthand. “The lack of diversity is unfortunate. Black women have a lot of purchasing power and are the designers of today. We need to be included in the efforts to sell home fashions, services and everything else in the wedding fashion business”, he said.

Pitter hopes his line can reach the same level of recognition as Amsale, but as his star rises, he hopes to bring more friends with him. “I look forward to the day when Pantora and my colleagues in the black industry will be respected and recognized by major publications and retailers,” he said. “It would be nice to easily find a bridal designer who understands them culturally.”
So in addition to Pantora Bridal, here are 21 other black bridal designers who should be on their radar.
Andrea Pitter is the founder and creative director of Pantora Bridal, a bridal boutique based in Brooklyn, NY. In 2011, she earned a BFA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
According to Pitter, Pantora are confident, feminine and luxurious and have a connection to the “real world”. “At Pantora we offer high quality products. We enjoy clothes that touch home, our designs are elegantly unique yet inviting. Pantora Bridal offers the opportunity to come naturally and be celebrated. The bride’s dress is loose!,” he said.
Why Brides Are Wearing Black Wedding Dresses In 2022
Her designs not only feature classic silhouettes and modern trends, but she designs with the Black bride in mind. While fake dresses are beautiful, the usual mesh colors don’t really work on dark skin, so Pantora Bridal created, Forgotten Skin Tones, their own line of mesh and layered.
“We have 7 Forgotten Skin Tone mesh colors ranging from buff to deep. Each shade can be used on women with different skin types,” said Pitter. Black women have different skin tones and unfortunately the bridal fashion industry is not familiar with the idea that there is no universal fairness.”
The Pantora dress also takes curves into account with a hip-first approach to growth. “Pantora’s bride includes everything, we don’t just think about skin color, but we also see body curves. Our bodies are celebrated only when they are imitated by other nations. We come in all shapes and sizes, and any package. if we go in, it must wear until nine o’clock.
With 20 years of experience in the industry, Jean-Ralph Thurin is not exactly climbing. e to her for a wedding dress designed with all their needs in mind.

“Customers who come to us have done their research, they’ve done their art, they know who I am, and they come to make dresses because they know I’m going to do that,” Thurin said.
She designed dresses to fit black women and their bodies and drew great inspiration from architecture. “Sometimes there are pillars in the windows, inside, but it’s interesting to me,” he said. “Many of my clients really like figure-hugging dresses and appreciate their curves, so I usually try to dress them up in a different style.
