December 2017, we were at Pizmo for my father-in-law’s birthday. On December 2 Kyle and everyone who was there to celebrate had a proposal planned. The night before everyone told me we went shell hunting on the beach. The next morning I was ready to go hunting with my bag. It was 11 o’clock, but I didn’t know you had to go out earlier in the morning to find anything. Kyle and I started walking on the beach and he asked me some adult questions… Where do you see yourself in 5 years? A little further we walk. I was looking at the sea when he asked me to turn around. When I turned around I saw some heart shaped ornaments on the ground and a sign that read Marry May, Abby. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. When of course I said yes! Everyone came out and shouted with joy. It was such a surprise and an amazing proposal. The weather was also sunny and perfect.

So my wedding colors were purple, blue and white. For as long as I can remember, these were always the colors I wanted to use every time I got married. Since I love the beach and proposed on the beach, I wanted to use a beach theme for the wedding. The wedding location was Blue Lake, CA, at a casino hotel. The ceremony was supposed to take place on the beach near the hotel, but it started to rain. We ended up having the ceremony and reception at what was called the Sapphire Palace.
My dress was from David’s Bridal. It was a beautiful pink color, with A-Line lace. I changed the dress shorter in the front and longer in the back, and put a pink button up. I had a maid of honor and a bridesmaid. Both wore 2 different shades of purple long dresses from David’s Bridal. They also wore purple Converse
. My groom wore a nice pair of jeans with a white shirt and a gray vest. Groomsmen and groomsmen wore nice jeans and white shirts with light blue ties in different colors. All the kids wore black Converse
The most important thing for us is not to spend a lot of money since we paid for the wedding ourselves. But we made sure we had everything we wanted.

My favorite part of the wedding was that all the families were together. It was so nice to see everyone we haven’t seen in years. My favorite memory will forever be watching my husband kill it on the track. I had never seen her dance the way she did that day and it made me so happy. Everyone had fun and it was a great show.
My wedding flowers were from Arcata Florist. I wanted to have all my wedding colors in them and they exceeded my expectations. I love roses and lilies and they made sure to have both in their bouquets.
My wedding cake was simple. It was a beach themed cake. My mother made it for us. The hotel made purple and blue cakes for everyone.
For my favors, I made customized M&M’s in our colors and a small bottle of alcohol in a blue or purple gift bag. We decided on all the different bottles of Jack Daniels and labeled them “We tie the knot now take a shot!” I had a stack of cards on each table with our picture on them. I also had 2 little bells to ring for a kiss on each of the tables.

My centerpieces were all DIY. I made my center look like a beach inside a net. There was a thin vase placed on the mirror that remained in place. I had purple, light blue and white sand in each of them around the vase and on top of them I put shells. I put water in the vases and flowers. The sides of the center piece were two small jars that I lined up and glued the starfish to. The jars were filled with waterproof light and colored water beads.
DON’T BE NERVOUS! If something goes wrong on the wedding day, no one knows but you. Just work around it. It all works out in the end. The day will be over before you know it, so enjoy every minute of it!
