I purchased Robert L. Mae’s book Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to enrich my school’s anti-bullying curriculum. As we read the story together, my students and I discussed teasing, helping others, and treating others as you would want to be treated.

Fun fact: The original creator of Rudolph’s story was Robert L. In 1938, May worked as a copywriter for Montgomery Ward & Company in Chicago. His supervisor asked him to write a Christmas story for a gift for the entire store. The story of May was distributed to almost two and a half million children that year!

2. Use scissors to cut two small ears for the deer. Glue them to the pine cone. We found it helpful to put a pine cone on top of the cookie cutter to keep it from spinning!

Tip: Want to keep it natural? Use fuzzy magnolia tree buds for the deer’s ears and one blueberry for the nose!

3. Glue two small branches or a pair of pipe cleaners to the top of the pine cone. If you are using a pipe cleaner, simply fold the brown pipe cleaner in half and cut the folds. Fold one cut piece (about 7 inches) into a V. Cut the other half into 3-4 inch pieces to create the desired size for the rest of the horn. Wrap the short pieces around the long pieces, shape and then glue to the pine cone.
