From there, you can calculate your target heart rate zone by taking 50% to 85% of your maximum heart rate, depending on whether you’re doing moderate or vigorous exercise.

That’s why endurance athletes tend to have lower heart rates – their hearts work better. In fact, a good resting heart rate for an experienced athlete may be closer to 40 beats per minute.
