Polka Dot Weddings – Today’s bride Rachel describes her style as elegant + unconventional, so of course this translates to the wedding! She + her love Tim knew they didn’t want a typical wedding atmosphere for their big day… instead, a huge, eclectic + wild party! To start, Rachel wore a polka dot dress by New Zealand designer Kelsey Genna. For the team? He wore a seriously cold, dark green suit. To top it all off, the brides wore different shades of pink!

Rachel shared. We chose to plan a morning ceremony and dinner reception because we loved the natural light in our 1921 boathouse and being able to mingle on the patio, walk on the water and drink coffee while our guests danced. The storm within. After dropping off our friends around 3pm, we had time to go out for a lovely dinner and enjoy a relaxing evening before heading to our honeymoon. Morning weddings are definitely not appreciated!

The speeches given by our best man and maid of honor were definitely highlights of the day for both of us. My sister Hannah touched on what it means and what it means to be completely in love with someone, and John, Timothy’s best friend of four years, gave a funny and sweet anecdote about what it was like to see his two best friends get married. And finally passes the role of “third wheel”. We couldn’t help but feel surrounded by people who knew and loved us.

We can’t get enough of that table runner paired with deep pops of green + hot pink. So much fun!!

For our first dance, we played a cover of “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” by She and H – a song I first heard a few summers ago and instantly knew it was ours.

My advice is to be clear about what you want and what you have in mind for the day, not what others might force you to plan. Many of the big risks we took (black and white dresses, green suits, morning ceremonies, floral ties) seemed completely crazy to family members when we were still in the planning process, but I was determined to see our vision come to life. And it totally paid off in the end.
