This week I want to talk about the Turks and Caicos beaches I got to enjoy thanks to the Martha Stewart wedding crew, including the beautiful Darcy Miller and sandal/beaches. What a wonderful place to stay and an even better place to have a wedding. Turks and Caicos has a particularly amazing beach that I couldn’t help but walk, relax and swim. The beach staff and wedding planners couldn’t have made the wedding there easier.
We got to experience the wedding reception first (please see pictures above) and it was one of my favorite Martha Stewart themes. My date even matched Dave’s pants to the holiday event! The detail, food and setting on the beach was one of the most elegant and wonderful dinners I’ve had in a long time. No small detail is missed. From a candy bar to colorful umbrellas and fans, mini wedding cakes and s’mores with a bonfire at the end of the night, your guests will be delighted at their beach wedding. After Butch Stewart purchased the Bay Rogue Hotel in Jamaica, it needed renovations, but he always wanted to open the resort in the popular winter season. Jamaican pink cut Trelawny stone was brought in for the entrance, and a new lobby and pool were built. Rooms were outfitted with king-size beds—an industry standard at the time—and four months later, at a cost of $4 million, the 133-room Sandals Resort Beach Club opened its doors, renamed Sandals Montego Bay five years later.

It was architect Evan Williams who wanted to create something special that would forever be associated with sandals. When he presented the idea of building a pool with a bar, Butch Stewart replied, “Let’s try.” Williams Sandals designed the first lagoon-style pool bar in Montego Bay, with stools built into the water next to the full-service bar. Guests went in droves, and the swim-up pool bar became a standard feature at all Sandals (and Beaches) resorts.
They may be small in size, but right from the start, the sandal Carlyle had a lot of charm. With just 52 rooms set in five acres of tropical gardens, steps from the beach at Montego Bay, the resort appeals to those seeking an intimate boutique experience. A tranquil oceanfront garden, Sandal Carlyle is always a favorite with guests.
The Royal Caribbean Hotel was the next resort purchased by Butch Stewart. After extensive renovations to the main resort and its private ocean island, Sandals Royal Caribbean has reopened its doors. With Sandals sister resort Montego Bay less than a mile away, a unique opportunity arose – and the Stay at One Sandals, Play at Two concept was launched.
In the 1980s, bathroom amenities such as hair dryers, king-size beds, and clock radios were not standard for hotels and resorts. Butch Stewart understood what “luxury” meant when he visited Europe and found a hair dryer in the bathroom. All sandal hotels were equipped with such luxurious facilities at that time.
