I was honestly shocked at what I thought I had chosen for the outfit. It’s not a direction I intended or envisioned, but it just felt right when I put it on. I feel like Cinderella’s cheese says it all – but when you know, you know!
If I go that route, it will be “custom made”. I have to go back a few months before the wedding to look for supplies! I’ll keep you posted on that process too!
I went on a Monday and apparently none of the shops were open, but if I were to do it again I would definitely check out Carine’s Bridal in DC and Lovely Bride DC.
They were actually filming while I was there. Kleinfeld’s is an experience – be prepared. They can handle many brides and are hungry for sales. Their selection is quite large though, so this is a great place to start to experience your favorite! Despite what many people told me, I had a good experience there.

Mark Ingram Bridal: This experience was unlike any other. In other stores, you can see all the clothes on display and grab what you like. At Marc, tell the bridal attendant what you want and he’ll get it for you. At that point I thought I had already found my dress, but I had an appointment and didn’t want to cancel it. This was their last meeting of the day – my third meeting of the day. Needless to say, I was tired! As it turns out, this is where I found my dress! The bridesmaid nailed it perfectly.
L’fay: This is the least chaotic store I’ve ever been to. L’fay is a breath of fresh air. It’s quiet, and I was the only bride there—the opposite of Kleinfeld and represents the oft-discussed charm of the Upper East Side (except it smells like melted garbage in the summer). They are open to creativity and customization. Their staff tailor helped me put together a look that I loved!
BERTA NYC: Located in SOHO, this store is different from other stores that carry Berta. Everything is off the shelf, meaning they have been worn (probably by the models) and you just buy it off the shelf and organize it yourself. The bad news is that the size runs small. The good news is that you can save big on the Berta dress!!
From DC to NYC, I’ll show you everything! !! I hope you enjoy seeing all the different shops, clothes and tips.

I can’t even describe how happy I was when my sister asked me to be her maid of honor. The part of the process I was most looking forward to? Shopping for a dress. I couldn’t wait to see her look more and more beautiful with each rehearsal. A friend of ours is from Colorado and introduced us to Little White Dress where we spent hours browsing the blog and store thinking of cute ideas we got for things my sister really liked. Now that we’re going through this process, I wanted to reach out to the LWD community and offer my personal advice, from one servant to another (or whoever!).
There are often high expectations when shopping for the perfect wedding dress. In most cases, a bride has envisioned her perfect dress since she was a child, and getting it requires shopping around, knowing where to look, and knowing what fits. Of course, budget and the type of wedding planning are important things to consider. At this point, I would like to discuss how to best support the bride emotionally when shopping for dresses.
Knowing what to expect in the market definitely helps when shopping for and matching clothes. Sit down with the bride, research the internet together and make a list of design, fabric and seating elements that are important to her. (On a side note, as part of a wedding gift, you could also consider helping the bride choose accessories to match her dress and is a nice treat. I did this for my sister and she loved the helpful gift idea). Make a list of stores she wants to go to for furnishings and save web links to styles she likes. This will give you both an idea of where to start. You may also want to call stores ahead of time to see if they carry the styles you’re interested in.

Most brides decide to have her mom, you, her best friend, sister, and maid of honor along for the ride. The bride may appreciate the company of a bridesmaid or two. However, remember that everyone wants to express their opinion about each option, and there can be many at once.
Once again, it depends on the personality of the bride. Ask him directly how much he needs your input. Some people know when they can find the right match without external input, while others really want it
