Jessica McDonnell hoped she could turn her mother’s 1978 wedding dress into something delicate to wear on her wedding day. Jessica lost her mother a year before her wedding. He found his mother’s blankets and quilts in the basement in good condition. He said he was looking for “little miracles.”
Jessica felt her mother’s veil was timeless and wanted me to remove it from the original to wear on the wedding day. Bridal veils often do not survive the wedding day without scratches. Most of the time I find holes and stains when I start the demolition process. There were some issues with Jessica’s veil that I couldn’t fix.
As soon as I saw the lace, I knew I could create something.. Delicate and beautiful. Jessica relies on my experience in vintage restoration and is open to new design ideas.
I asked her mother to use some of the lace to make a soft piece. Jessica gave me a little artistic freedom to add freshwater pearls and Swarovski bling. I like it when my daughter-in-law trusts me and my work. As a designer, there is no greater compliment than confidence!
Perfect Hair Accessories For A Vintage Bride
As soon as the cover came off, I was excited. Seeing myself on the veil felt “real”, I felt like a bride. Wearing my mother’s bridal veil was very special and I am grateful to be able to incorporate her memory into my day.
I told some of my family and friends before the wedding that I had designed the new mom veil and they were so excited on the day of the wedding.
I loved this photo and asked Jessica about the story behind it. He said the photo was taken after he and his aunt Barbara asked Barbara if it was her mother’s veil. As I always do
