And a study in which researchers secretly watched thousands of people wash their hands showed that only 5 percent followed all the rules.
If you can’t wash your hands with soap and water, the CDC recommends using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol. Of course, this is difficult or impossible to achieve now. This is one of the reasons why hand washing is better. Others include that hand sanitizers do not remove all germs and that hand sanitizers may not work when hands are visibly dirty or greasy.
