Diy Tree Slices
Diy Tree Slices – A few months ago I saw a tree being removed in front of my neighbor’s house. It was a really beautiful old white oak tree, but unfortunately it gave off so much light that it overshadowed the whole side of his house and meant he couldn’t grow anything.
I was lucky enough to find some nice pieces of wood that had been cut before the removal crew removed the remains of the felled tree (they were more than happy to get their hands on some!).

So, the plan was to make my own version of the natural wood accent tables you often see in stores these days…but without the hefty price tag!
Best Ways To Use Wood Slices In Your Home
Such an easy way to add a completely custom side table or coffee table to your home.
You can find many online tutorials for creating similar parts, and there are different approaches, but I thought of it this way. Since I am a self-proclaimed novice in this area, I opted for simplicity 🙂
A note on where to get wood chips: Like I said, we were lucky enough to stumble upon ours by accident. I did a little research and you can find similar boards at local lumber yards, craft stores, or online (you can get them from Save-on-Crafts here).
Prepare a piece of wood by sanding to smooth the surface and remove any imperfections. Depending on where you got your piece of wood, you can skip this step, but in our case, since it came straight from the wood, it needed a little TLC first.

We used sandpaper (grit 60) and an electric sander to do this job. It’s not quite flat yet – I think I need a wood planer for that – but it’s definitely close enough.
I chose not to remove the bark, I think it gives a more rustic look. It seemed to prevent a lot of cracking as it sat in our garage for months until I finally got around to this project!
Our piece of wood is about 5 inches thick (as the arborists cut it), but I think a thinner piece would work just as well.
After the surface is leveled, it is protected from wood shedding, heat damage, etc. Close with a knife to protect the wood (I used polyurethane, semi-glossy).

I applied the mastic with a foam brush and it took five or six coats to get a thick, even coating. After drying, we have a nice, smooth finish.
We chose hairpin legs for our desk, which seems to be the most popular style at the moment. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can leave the iron table legs as is or paint them to your liking.
The table legs we used – available here – are raw, uncoated steel. I decided to spray paint them to reduce the chance of them rusting over time. Alternatively, you can use flaxseed oil or bee honey.
By the way, I can highly recommend the Etsy seller I used… the iron legs are great quality for a great price (around $8 each) and the shipping was super fast. You can also specify the exact size you want.

Next time I might be a little more creative with the paint, but since this is really my first attempt at making any kind of furniture from scratch, I thought I’d play it safe 🙂
Finally, place the pieces on a flat surface and make sure the legs are level. Because of the irregular shape of the piece of wood, it can be a bit tricky… I close my eyes.
Once you are happy with the placement, attach the legs using wood screws (the longest thickness of the board). You’ll want to use a drill to make the holes for the screws.
That’s all. Now we have our very own DIY wooden cutting board. I was very pleased with how this little project turned out. All that for about $35… not too shabby!

I love creating personalized decorations for the holidays, especially newlywed decorations for newlyweds. These are great DIY projects that will help you honor a special couple and celebrate your first Christmas together.
To make photo transfer decorations, you “print” the photo directly onto the wood using Mod Podge’s special formula. Compared to other splitting methods, this method prevents bubbles and scratches.

An inkjet printer does not produce the same results as a recommended laserjet printer. You shouldn’t even use a real photo.
Instruct the job to be sent to FedEx. You can place your order online and have it printed within hours.
To get started, select “Shipments and Special Projects” on the FedEx page. You can place your photos in a word document to upload them.

Tip: Your image will be inverted in the tree, if necessary, flip the image horizontally before printing.
Before you begin, you can sand the surface of the wood pieces depending on the roughness of the texture. I got them from a craft store so they are already a bit flat.
After you cut the image to size, trace the hole for the trim on the paper. Use a hole punch to create a hole in the image that matches the decoration.
Apply photo transfer medium liberally with a foam brush while viewing the photo. You can use wax paper or a plastic food container to cover all the edges well.

Smooth the image using a brazier or tweezers. I love this softening tool for this purpose. If any liquid gets on the edges, you can use a damp cloth to clean it.
Once the transfer is completely dry (after 24 hours), begin wiping the paper with a damp cloth or sponge. Wait 2 minutes before gently removing the paper with the sponge/cloth or your fingers.
Take it from me, you’ll be very careful not to take that last picture. I recommend testing Photo Transfer Mod Podge on pieces of wood to get comfortable with the product.
Once you have your final image, you can stamp your project using the same image transfer tool or choose another Mod Podge product of your choice.

Below are instructions for using a Cricut or Cameo cutting machine, but you can always color your letters by hand.
Before painting the trim, you can lightly sand the piece of wood. Then add a coat of paint and let it dry for 1 hour.
I like to put small rings of natural wood around the edges to set the color better.
Budget Christmas Decor: Use Tree Slices To Make Cute Holiday Decor
I created my own font Sentences in Silhouette Studio Business Edition. (Read on for the specific fonts used.) You can also use the Cricut to create your own designs and customize images.
Tip: In Silhouette Studio, use the tools to bend the letters to fit the shape of the piece of wood.
You’ll want to scale the design to match the look of your decor. I printed part of the design on my home printer before cutting it out with my Silhouette Cameo machine.
Once the design is cut out, you’ll want to trim (remove) the excess vinyl to reveal the letters.
Wood Slice Christmas Tree
To transfer your design to the decor, place a piece of tape over the vinyl to “catch” the letters. Then place the phrase on the piece of wood and gently wrap the duct tape around it.
You can use any sentence as a metaphor. My wood pieces have many sizes and shapes, so be careful not to change the size of the sentences slightly.
You can add fun farmhouse buffalo plain ribbon or striped cotton ribbon to decorate your decorations. On the other hand, you can experiment with wooden designs. (Tutorial on this coming soon!)
