Many parents ask this question during pregnancy. Some people feel intense love for their babies when they are born, but many take weeks or months to adjust and love their baby.
Either way, it’s perfectly normal. It doesn’t have to be love at first sight to be a good parent. The more you hold, feed and talk to your baby, the closer you become to him. Learn more about ways to bond with your child.
Talk to your doctor or midwife if you are struggling with these feelings. Don’t worry, they won’t judge you. They can provide or help you get more help and support if you need it.
This can be frustrating. Your due date is over and gone, you feel huge and tired of going to the bathroom every 5 minutes.
Early Signs And Symptoms Of Labour
There are a few things you can do to go into labor naturally. But be aware that there isn’t enough scientific evidence to prove that any of them work.

Looking to go into labor? Did your doctor mention the word “induction” and now you’re afraid your body is “doing nothing”? Does the doctor tell you that the baby will grow too much if you go past your due date?
Your body is doing what it should, growing a healthy baby. And I know you probably don’t feel very comfortable and ready to meet the little one(s). As a birth doula and certified childbirth educator, I hear all the time about “natural” ways to start labor. So today we will talk about non-pharmacological inductions.
Inducing Childbirth With Sex
In another blog post, I will discuss informed consent. Remember, each has its pros and cons. It is important to keep yourself informed. And this is no different.
Many of the things I discuss below are recommended by health care providers, and many other methods need more testing to prove effective, but moms swear by them.
If you decide to see an acupuncturist, herbalist, homeopathic doctor or massage therapist, make sure you go to a qualified specialist and that they know the pregnancy and birth aspects of their treatment.
Keep in mind that there are medical reasons, such as cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, a young child, uterine infection, reduced amniotic fluid volume, or prolonged waiting after intrauterine death. Can Jumping Jacks Induce Labor?
Recent research suggests that labor actually begins when the baby’s lungs are mature enough to secrete a protein called surfactant. Surfactant is essential for extrauterine respiration. The release of this protein triggers a cascade of hormones in the mother to tell the mother’s body to go into labor. (Dr. Carol Mendelson, Dr. Jennifer Condon, and Dr. Pancharatnam Jayasuriya, 2004). The baby prepares and sits on the mother’s body, which puts pressure on the cervix and causes the release of the hormone, oxytocin. Oxytocin is a very important hormone for labor and birth. It thins and dilates the cervix, causing contractions and moving the baby down and out of the birth canal. It releases breast milk and induces feelings of nurturing and bonding between mother and baby.
“There is a kind of chemical ‘combination lock’ that initiates labor. Everything has to come together to ‘unlock’ a good working pattern. .” – Mom Gail Hart
No one knows exactly when your baby will tell your body that he/she is ready to be born. Try to trust the wisdom of your body and the wisdom of the child. No matter how many “natural” things you do to start labor, if your baby isn’t ready, he/she isn’t ready…and labor won’t start.
It’s true that the normal due date range is between 38 and 40 weeks, but did you know that your due date could be off by as much as 2 weeks? Because women’s bodies do not follow a precise mathematical plan. It is based on a 28-day cycle and assumes that every woman ovulates on day 14. You see, your estimated due date is calculated by marking the first day of your last period, counting back 3 months and adding 7 days. Menstrual cycles change and the length of time the baby stays in the womb changes. Due dates are also determined by early first trimester ultrasounds.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) pregnancies are pregnancies where the estimated time of conception is known. On average, a first-time mother gives birth at 41+0 weeks or 287 days. Most mothers go into labor sometime two weeks before or two weeks after their due date. So basically you can think of it as your assigned month rather than the actual date. Be patient and take these extra days to spend time with those you love, sleep, eat well and do the things you love to do, because once the baby arrives, spontaneity flies out the window and it’s all about the baby.
However, in 2013, ACOG redefined what it means for a woman to carry her baby in an effort to prevent unnecessary medical inductions before 39 weeks.
Many women focus on dilation and are devastated when their doctor or midwife says, “Not dilated yet.”

Dilation Of The Cervix In Late Pregnancy
First things first… wait until week 40! And keep in mind that there are no “natural” inductions, because you’re still trying to do something to start labor. It’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor or midwife about “natural” induction methods, especially if you’re considering herbal remedies or nipple stimulation beyond normal sex.
Do what makes you feel relaxed, free and loved. Please don’t obsess over trying to induce labor or force it to happen just because your baby may not be ready and he or she may be stressed. Trust me, your baby will feel whatever you feel emotionally, so relax.
Nipple stimulation can help your cervix ripen and/or start labor because it increases the production of oxytocin. Oxytocin is the bonding hormone of love and is also responsible for contractions. You see, you get oxytocin when you look into someone’s eyes, get a delicious hug, during sex, and when you climax. I love oxytocin!
Here’s a concern about nipple stimulation and why you should clear it up with your healthcare provider, which can lead to prolonged (more than 60 seconds), frequent (more than two in ten
