Anyone Not Getting A Wedding Photographer – Why I regret not hiring a professional wedding photographer. | Orlando, Florida Lauren Benson Personal photo September 20, 2019

When Matt proposed, we were excited to start planning our wedding. I’ve spent my whole life planning my wedding in detail with barbie and poly bags – so I’m ready! Or so I thought…

We started the planning process and quickly realized we couldn’t afford a big wedding. Only about eighteen, there was nothing next to our name and it was a big shot – the army kept us all over the country. After a whole month of planning our wedding, we have to make such a big move?!

An Extravagant Affair

All decorations are from Dollar Tree and Cakes are from Publix. Every place in our mind became unreasonably precious, so we quickly changed the place to my mother’s church. I splurged on my skirt, but we cut every part of our budget at least in half. All we need is a photo of the day. Hiring a photographer is our first priority so I always look for people around there. But I cringe every time I see the price…

When I was doing photography for a few years at that time, I couldn’t imagine that it was a big part of our budget. Finally, I decided to contact a photographer friend. Although I don’t like its performance, it is the cheapest option.

A week before my wedding, the photographer called us to tell us that his grandmother had passed away and that he was no longer able to photograph our wedding.

When I realized the situation, I was heartbroken. I don’t know what to do. Fortunately, he has a second shooter who can fill in. We’ve never seen his second shot, so we don’t know what to expect. We thought he would meet us at church and that he was trained as a sniper. Our photographer assured us that he will still be editing the footage. At this point, we have no choice but to accept that. What shall we do? Try finding another photographer a week before our wedding?!

Why You Don’t Really Need A Wedding Photographer — Sorry, Not Sorry

The day started with my wife’s daughters and my sister preparing together. There was so much fun from that morning as we laughed and laughed the whole time. After making sure that all the details are complete, we went to the church. My girls dressed me up and my sister surprised me with a tiffany necklace. The whole morning was magical.

I had a few moments to myself on the stairs as everyone lined up for the ceremony. The violinist was playing “The Thing” by The Beatles, and my heart sank knowing that I was about to marry the love of my life. Tears were streaming down my face before I walked down that road. We promised each other in front of our friends and family and ran out of the church and into the party.

Fun times filled the atmosphere of the party. We laughed that night about the wedding reception, the sweet talk from a good friend and most importantly the time we spent with our loved ones before the big trip. Hand in hand, we enjoy every moment together. It was one of the best days of my life.

In the days that followed our marriage, we packed up everything in our lives and said goodbye to our childhood home. All is well and the stressful planning of the wedding is over. We jumped into our Uhaul and started our vacation…driving from Nashville, TN to San Diego, CA.

To First Look Or Not To First Look?

Three days into our honeymoon, I get a call from our original photographer who tells me that “his house has been blown up and all our photos are gone”.

No words came out of my mouth. There would have been no pictures of us with my nephew, our family, Matt’s grandparents or the moments in between. Tears during our vows, smiles during our receptions ended.

After hearing his story, it seems that none of his equipment was stolen, only the hard drive with my photos. The only photos we will have on our wedding day are those taken by our friends and family.

We trusted a friend to help us save money, so we lost one of our gifts on our wedding day.

Why I Regret Not Hiring A Professional Wedding Photographer.

If I could go back and do it all over again, I wouldn’t have invited our friend. We spent our money on the cake, my dress, the suit and threw away all our jewelry. We do not remember the small center or the taste of the cake, because none of it is important. What is important is our time and memories, which we plan to live for the rest of our lives Investing in not only good photos, but a professional who will take care of them, is what I can afford.

So take a look at our wedding day photos. Well-edited photos are the ones we value more than anything else we own.

I brought my own camera to prepare for our wedding, and I’m so glad I did! The beginning of this day was filled with an air of great anticipation and joy.

As scary as it was, walking that path myself was something I was very proud to do.

Wedding Photos: When Snap Happy Guests Go Too Far

It was so wonderful to see my niece be such a big part of our day, so these photos are two of my favorites.

What songs do we sing in church? “California Love” by Tupac. It’s been very fortunate since we uprooted our lives to move to San Diego, California.

We’re still laughing about the fact that we had a Fight Club grooms cake, so I’m glad my friend took a picture of it.

Until now, I had completely forgotten that tearing a cake in front of your wife was a thing. It is a time in our time that shines with love.

Ways To Not Mess Up Your Wedding Photos

We have an album full of these photos and they mean the world to us. It helps to know that we have at least a few moments from that day to make us remember. Thank you to all our friends and family who are a part of our day. And a big thank you to everyone who took pictures for us.

Your memories are precious. Your story is unique. From experience, you don’t want to look back on your wedding photos and have any regrets. You need to look back and be able to relive your day from start to finish.

We tried to make up for lost time. Over the years we have “redone” our wedding photos and this led to us redoing our vows. But that will be a blog for another day, so stay tuned for more stories! Be sure to follow my blog at www.blog

Next Beach Wedding Inspiration | Ponce Inlet, Florida Lauren Benson Photography When I shoot weddings, my day starts the same way. If there is a groom, I will get to the bride’s prep area before she gets dressed and starts taking pictures. Usually, my second shooter will start the day and I help capture the details while I shoot the press, and he will be sent to be with the bride and groom.

How To Choose A Wedding Photographer

Getting ready, when it is clear that he will wear pants. (I’m sure my fellow photographers know the dangers of this work, no-pants-on-the-groom situation.) If there’s no one shooting the two (that the couple does not prepare together, which, blessedly, probably happens more often. than at all), I will not see the bride and groom until I am a bride. Although I consider myself a progressive, female wedding photographer, the message has always been the same: the bride is the most important thing.

It’s not news or surprise that the wedding industry is a mess of information and creative expectations. It’s wife’s day. Brides are just window dressing. This type of information is not only harmful, but also separates couples who may not be in the dichotomy of spouses. Worse, it often leads to the dreaded question that couples who have sex are often asked: Which one of you is the wife? For the most part, I’d like to think we’re getting better at it. It’s surprising now, more than expected, when I hear gender-blurred language in indie wedding advertising. Many photographers have changed their contracts from listing brides and grooms to listing Partner A and Partner B. But only
