Can You Use Opi Nail Envy As A Base Coat – I’m so excited to finally share the results of my 10-day trial of OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener (with before and after photos)! You see, my right hand nails have been broken a lot lately and I wanted to test out this popular product and hope they come back to shape!

The best-selling variant of Nail Envy is the original formula, but OPI has many other formulas that target specific nail concerns. I opted for the moisturizing formula of Nail Envy for Dry & Brittle Nails (red bottle). Although my nails look strong and are growing at a decent rate, I still break frequently. If my hand accidentally hits something – my nails usually snap or split. I hope the moisturizing formula for dry brittle nails will restore flexibility. My results follow…but let’s see my before and after pics first! !

Here’s my poor right hand that suffered some serious breakage before I started using Nail Envy…

Opi Nail Envy Strength In Color

The directions say to apply two coats and then another coat every other day. After a week, you have to delete everything and start the process all over again. Since I change my nail colors so often, I couldn’t make the t-shirts according to their plan…so I applied 2 coats and then painted my nail color – and let it work the next day. So on the third day, I removed all the polish and put on 2 more coats of Nail Envy, then my nail color etc… so basically I was still able to apply the enhancer every other day as directed, but I didn’t build up to layering over the course of a week as suggested. I decided to test the product this way for 10 days…

From the pictures, my nails look a bit the same, just longer. But here’s how I know this product really works…

Day 2 – I hit my hand really hard on the metal jig and got a small sprain in my right middle finger. A blow to the nails caused the top layer to peel off on my tips. hush. Pretty typical of my habit of, “Man, I broke a nail!”…but remember, I’ve only used the product once at this point. After tearing off the peeling layer, I decided not to file or buff it, I just used more Nail Envy. I was so impressed with how the bald areas smoothed and healed over time! Within a few days, the surface of the area became so smooth it was almost as if the flaky layers had melted back together!

Day 8 – I banged my hand on the wall while I was sleeping. Not sure exactly what’s going on, but I know it has something to do with my naughty cat, Fergie. My entire finger and nail bed were injured so I turned on the light to assess the nail damage (this is the same nail that was hit on day 2). To my surprise – no damage! My nails must have bent and absorbed the impact without snapping or cracking! I had pink nail polish marks all over the wall and my fingers hurt like hell but my nails were intact. I smiled and went back to bed.

Day 9 – ok, I’m starting to sound like a douchebag – but I pick something up and it slips out of my hand…my left middle finger nail is bent back! Ouch – don’t you hate when this happens? It makes me just think about its heebie-jeebies. But I’m glad my nails didn’t snap off! It just bends back and then returns to normal. Very impressive.

♥ On day 10, I can confirm that this product made my nails more flexible and less prone to breakage! It seems to restore hydration and make my nails less brittle. I would definitely recommend this product! The key may be finding the formula that works best for you. You can research different formulas on the OPI website.

Ten days is a long time…my nails keep growing! I can’t wait to file my nails! Until next time…. Colored nail care is a big thing right now. OPI Nail Envy is a very popular intensive treatment, so it makes perfect sense that OPI would release some colored versions! I’ll be testing hardening features for a while, but enjoy the samples while you wait for my thoughts on handling features.

OPI Hawaiian Orchid is a pretty pink cream with lilac/purple undertones. It gives a warm and cozy feeling. I don’t have this shade in my regular OPI polishes, but I can see why it’s such a hit. It might be safe for a lot of people, but it’s still a vibrant pink.

These are three light coats. Hawaiian Orchid is the darkest of the Nail Envy stain treatments. The first coat is a bit thin, but it works well, as you can see. It has a lovely smooth formula.

OPI Bubble Bath, another very popular shade, is a sheer bleached pink. It gives such a soft creamy sheen to the nails. This pale pink wash is an OPI classic, so I’m not surprised they chose it for this collection.

This is a three layer bubble bath. I think it might be more opaque than the normal polished version. The first floor is very clean, the third floor still has some VNL. But that’s part of the appeal of this polish for many. Applying is easy.

I’ve been wanting to buy the regular version of OPI Samoan Sand for years. It looked like to me it would be a great nude, and it is. Samoan Sand is a warm beige with a hint of creamy pink. It’s not a shade on my model hand, but it’s a really nice nude polish on my skin. I think it’s a flattering nudity for a lot of people.

These are three light coats. It comes clean again in one coat, but builds up nicely in three coats. It is very easy to apply and has a great formula.

The fourth shade in the range is OPI Pink to Envy. This is a shade exclusive to the Nail Envy range (ie not found in the regular polish range). This is a very bright light pink sheer polish. On nails, it looks mostly sheer. It’s three coats and I think it gives my nails an overall slightly pink look. Like the others, it’s easy to apply. All four are very glossy with no top coat. I did not use a top coat for these swatches. Note – I think these contain formaldehyde resin if you want to avoid this. I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while and I can’t put it off any longer. I’ve been blogging for a long time, like…

Have a great day my friend! I hope your week is off to a great start! Today I have some new products from OPI to show you. They took the popular nail treatment Nail Envy and added some variety by giving them a color they called Strength In Color. This is a great idea for anyone who wants an intensive protective treatment and polished color without the extra steps. Let’s see which shades they have picked up!

Bubble Bath is OPI’s signature SoftShade in a soft and delicate creamy pink shade. I have the original and really like it. This is three coats for a more opaque look, but you can stop at two for a more natural look. I didn’t use a top coat as it holds up the shine really well.

Next is Hawaiian Orchid, a creamy neutral rose purple. I love that they chose to include this shade in this range, it is very popular and long lasting. Great formula, I only need two coats for full coverage.

Pink To Envy is a new “shade” with a light pink sheer shade. The original Nail Envy is more creamy, so I wanted to make a clear version. You may not see anything but shine, but I have a coat here.

Finally there’s Samoan Sand, another popular SoftShade from the OPI Core range. This is a light sandy beige. I can’t believe I don’t have the original version of this, it’s a great neutral! Here are three coats. It dries a little darker than it looks in the bottle.

These new Nail Envy Strength In Color shades are available now at Ulta, JCPenney Salons, and Sally Beauty Supply, and retail for $17.95 in the US and $22.50 in Canada. What do you think of this change in nail treatment? Do you use Nail Envy? I know a lot of girls who swear by it!
