Gorgeous Floral Table Runner Ideas For Your Wedding Day
One of the most time-consuming parts of wedding planning is deciding how to decorate your reception tables. From classic flowers to neon light fixtures and everything in between – the world of wedding centerpieces is vast. Wondering where to start? Here it really is! We have prepared guidelines for various marriage centers. See what you like, then start planning wedding centerpieces that match your style and wedding theme.
A more traditional neutral flower arrangement. Whether they’re tall, short, wide or narrow, fresh centerpieces can say “marriage.” Keep the venue’s layout and design in mind when sizing your venue, advises event designer Joe Meyer of Joe Meyer Events. Tall settings work well in large spaces with high ceilings. Real couples who want their guests to interact at the table often prefer shorter arrangements. Size does not prevent guests from meeting and chatting across the table. Wide layouts can sometimes have a rough, wild look and look great on large round tables as they take up more space. Narrow settings like flower beds and low planters make the most of long, farmhouse-style tables. “Work with your space, not against it,” adds Mayer.
The flowers are only part of the middle section. You can also put in the dishes. From classic glass vases to ceramic bowls and acrylic holders, containers add another level of detail to your centerpiece. Use the colors, designs and materials of the tableware to echo the energy of your event. Want to put wildflowers in a camping bag for your flashy wedding? look for it. You can even mix and match, like using gold and silver bud pots between alloy planters. Also consider the size of your flower arrangement on the table. Meyer recommends placing clear containers up high so guests can see each other. For a lower centerpiece, anything goes: “You can look for glass, metal or wood because they enhance the design without blocking the view,” says Meyer.
Flowers and loose leaves are a great way to decorate a table, especially if you plan to have a longer table than a round table. The green thread follows the length of the table and the low height allows for lots of conversation between the guests. Greenery gives a lush look without costing as much as a flower. Having said that, green is not lacking. Aimee Monihan of Tropical Events explains that given the labor involved in making a bouquet, they’re not a hugely cost-effective option. “If a couple likes the floral look but has budget concerns, foliage is the way to go.”
Greenery Centerpieces To Decorate Your Wedding Tabletops
Flowers are said to be romantic, so it’s no wonder they have a place on the wedding table. “Flooding your home with candles is a great way to make a big statement,” says Birch event designer Carolyn Griff. “It’s a very complicated scene.” Candles come in many sizes and shapes: think ribbon candles in candelabras for a romantic, old-world vibe, pillar candles for a bold statement, and favors with tea lights twinkling among large garlands or other decorations. “Colorful dresses are a fun way to bring color to your wedding,” adds Griff.
Whatever you choose, be aware of the venue’s restrictions on open flames – indoor event venues may require a hurricane to surround candles, and many historic sites prohibit open flames. You can use artificial candles.
“All trees are bittersweet,” says JoAnn Gregoli, a planner at Elegant Venues. When he says tree, he means the couple will actually place a tree in the middle of the table and hang candles from the branches. Some couples hang flowers like orchids from branches or add other decorations like lights or ribbons to create a magical garden vibe. To enhance the atmosphere, she recommends placing trees at the entrance to the reception or around the dance floor so the look is consistent.
Nothing makes a dinner party feel grander than a beautiful candle. If your venue says castle, castle or mansion, consider throwing a crystal chandelier over your dining table. Lanterns look great at tented parties or rustic settings, while garlands (flowers hanging from vases) combine the best of both worlds. You can complement them by installing lighting above the dance floor. “It sets the wow factor in the home,” says designer Marylen Exposito. “Don’t say, it’s very Instagrammable.” Is there an alfresco thing? You can still hang pendant lights above the table, and they actually seem to float on thin air. How about a center?
Tall Wedding Centerpieces That Are Totally Luxe
Why put a vase on a tablet when you can hang flowers above? A fresh way to incorporate flowers, hanging flowers and plants will create a lively canopy for your wedding table. When visitors look, they see roses, hibiscus and more. It’s an experience! Flowers work well in tents when couples need to change the lattice and roof.
Fabrics set the tone for any table, says Clara Hough, owner of Hough House. From textured tablecloths like sequins to velvet table runners, fabric is a great way to enhance your centerpieces. They build on what you add. Beyond color, look to fabrics with personality like embroidery, studs or unique materials to help set the mood. You can go all fabric with your centerpieces. “One of my favorite centerpiece trends is hanging fabric from the ceiling or tall metal structures to create lines of ribbon candles,” says Hau. “I always like to use flowers as centerpieces.”
Including a variety of objects, from antiques to fine art, will bring a new dimension to your reception table. Erica Haskins, an experimental tinsel designer, replaced traditional flowers with antique violets, marbles, taxidermy and “other curiosities.” “It makes the table fun, not pretty,” she says. “Give guests another good reason to get up and walk around the house to see what’s going on.”
Pearls are the perfect place to show your personality. Event Designer Christine Banta of Christine Banta Events offers suggestions. “Often, couples are overwhelmed with choosing flowers, and we encourage them to think of it as a process like building a house,” says Banta. “Personalize your decor to reflect your personality and passion. It’s a dynamic and memorable way to plan your wedding.”

Literary lovers are often drawn to this idea: books. Pile your favorite tomes in the middle of the table with details like flowers and candles. It’s very personal – your guests will learn something about your taste, and you may even see a themed table after genres such as historical fantasy, chicken nuggets, classic stories and poems or famous characters like Holden Caulfield, Harry Potter or Nancy. Drew.
Bring your tables into the future with fun LED pendant lights or neon lights. “They allow a lot of flexibility with color stories, so couples don’t have to commit to one color tone for the length of the party,” Haskins says. “Alternatively, shake the bar to match the changing color, creating an effect across the room, pulse or ‘dance’ to the music. A real highlight to entertain your guests at dinner.
