5. I used 4 tea bags for 20 cups. A very “safe” ratio is 1 bag to 5 cups of water. If you want a dark or purple color, use more tea. Add the tea bags to the hot water and steep for about 3 minutes.
7. IMPORTANT! Let the tea sit until it warms or you’ll burn your palms squeezing the cloth!
8. Place the fabric to be dyed in the tea. Move the tea around so that it gets into all the folds and pockets of the garment.

9. Let them sit for at least five minutes. The more it is in the tea, the darker it will be. Check the color from time to time and remember that it will lighten as it dries.
10. Rinse the cloth thoroughly, then rinse in cold water to remove excess acids from the tea.
11. Wash thoroughly with vinegar to set the color on the fabric. Vinegar can be used directly, or diluted to one-tenth in water for larger parts where it would be wasteful to use so much vinegar.
