I joined Poshmark in July 2014 on my mother’s recommendation. He told me about this “app for selling clothes” several times, but at first I thought about it and dismissed it:
Despite my misguided opinions, he continues to inspire me. – You’re fashionable and keep your clothes in good shape, so what’s the harm in trying? So I signed up. I didn’t register anything right away. Then I saw that a friend of mine was seriously selling on the app. This caught my attention.
Poshmark: Buy And Sell Fashion, Home Decor, Beauty & More
It was fun because it didn’t sell name brand clothes. Its menus are not designed to be eye-catching. But obviously people bought it. Maybe I have a real shot!
I spent a few afternoons taking photos, writing descriptions, and posting them to my profile. In March 2016, I made my first sale. If you do the math, you might think:
No. Remember, when I joined Poshmark, I hadn’t logged in for a while. If I were to guess, it might take a month after posting the first ad.
To be honest, my first sale was kind of a nightmare. After I left the package at the post office and marked it as “shipped” a few minutes later, the buyer canceled the order citing “impulsive purchase”. I trembled. This is a beautiful dress and there is no way to return it unless the buyer decides to return it. I immediately contacted Poshmark and explained what had happened. They were quick to respond and assured me that they had credited the proceeds to my account (even though the order was canceled and the buyer was credited). They wrote: “Going forward, we recommend shipping your item within 2-3 days of placing your order. Please note that buyers can cancel their order within 7 days of placing their order.
How To Source Inventory For Poshmark
Item I had it shipped within 2-3 days. Poshmark’s FAQ page states that buyers can only cancel an “incidental purchase” within 3 hours of receiving their order. The sale was supposed to be final. So I emailed Poshmark again. If I want to continue to sell my clothes on their app, I need to make sure that buyers can’t cancel their order after 3 hours due to “accidental purchases”.
Poshmark has responded and apologized for the confusion. “The buyer asked us for help, so we respectfully canceled his order once.” Since then, I have had no problems with Postmark.
Today I earned a total of $2104.05 and I am proud to be considered a Poshmark “Top Seller” and “Most Seller” and a Posh Ambassador! Here are my simple, practical tips to help you clean out your closet and make some money.
If you want to take pictures, write a description, and if you want to go to the post office, make sure the clothes listed are of good quality. If you think something in your closet is only $8, don’t bother listing it on Poshmark. Best to donate your clothes then. For sales under $15, Poshmark pays $2.95. For purchases over $15, Poshmark takes a 20% commission. Time is money!
Selling On Poshmark (my Experience)
You don’t need a fancy camera. All you need is a smartphone. Shoot during the day, not at night. It looks more beautiful during the day. Some people go out of their way to dress up their photos with accessories and flowers. Personally, I don’t have time for that. I like to stick to solid backgrounds. I put my shoes on the white face or hang my heart on the white door. If you have a photo of yourself wearing the product, add it! It’s useful to see how it fits people. If you browse the web, you can sometimes find original photos of what you bought on the website. If your photos are looking dull and need a little *POP! * I recommend downloading an app called Color Story and using natural filters. Nothing too bright – you still want the photos to reflect the color of the clothes.
Got a few scratches on your shoes? Got a small scratch or stain on your shirt? Don’t try to hide it. Include photos of any defects and be honest in your description. If you try to trick your buyer, they will receive the item in the mail and eventually find out (and give you a bad review). Your evaluation is how you build trust with potential buyers. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!
Ship your order fast. The sooner the buyer receives the package, the happier they will be and the more likely you will get a better price. Make sure your clothes are freshly laundered and wrinkle-free. Wrap them neatly in tissue paper with a short + sweet handwritten thank you. In your notes, you can even ask buyers to leave a comment. A 5-star rating is your next step. Leave a good mark!
You can add up to 8 photos per listing. Take advantage of it. Make sure you have a picture of the front, back, bottom or all the little details. Think about the areas of clothing that get the most wear: armpits, the bottom of the largest garment or pants (if they touch the floor), the inside of the shirt collar (check for lint/makeup residue!), and the groin area. Jeans etc. If you can show your buyer that these parts are in mint condition, they will put their minds at ease and not hesitate to pull. release
How To Sell Clothes On Poshmark And Make Thousands
I always add the brand, color, style, and size to the title if there’s room for them all (eg J.Crew Navy Button Up Size Small). If I can’t match all of the words in the title, I’ll choose the words that I think are most important (ie the ones that people type into the search bar the most). In the description, I write what condition it is in (with markers like new, excellent, fair, fair, etc.) and how the fabric is made (80% cotton, 20% wool). If the product is small or large, it is also included. Don’t forget to consider possible drawbacks.
I’ll also include as many listing-related keywords as possible. Think: wide-leg pants, 3/4 sleeves, crop tops, flared jeans, and cowboy sweaters. Poshmark’s search bar is a search engine. Shoppers are searching for specific products like “brown wide leg pants”, so you want your information to appear in the search results!
This part is ultimately up to you. Consider the time and effort involved in 1) cataloging the items and 2) delivering them to the post office. I always start listing my clothes at a higher price because buyers have the opportunity to “offer” and they often offer less (duh). I have “turned down” several offers or “counterparts” and walked away from deals that I later regretted. All because I expected a few extra bucks! My thumb now? Unless the offer is outrageously low, click the “Accept” button. If you don’t use this product again, it’s just taking up valuable space in your closet. I still answer
