Missing My Mom Any Advice – When most people think of Mother’s Day, they often picture beautiful flowers, heart felt cards, candy and a special meal with their mom. This is a great way to think about Mother’s Day! For many of us, however, Mother’s Day brings a greater sense of sadness. Many people, like me, have no mother because of death. Others are not with their mother for other reasons, such as incarceration, never knowing their mother, being estranged from their mother, or having a cognitive and emotional disability such as Alzheimer’s disease. Whatever the reason, it hurts not to have your mom, especially around Mother’s Day.

This Mother’s Day will be the 12th Mother’s Day without my mother. I wish I could tell you that it would make it easier, but the truth is, I really don’t think it does. I dread going to the stores around Mother’s Day because I see all the things advertised for gifts and presents for Mom for that special day. I often think I wish I could still do that. To be perfectly honest, I still buy my mom a card, usually a small gift that I know she likes like a bottle of her favorite perfume. This card has been in a drawer with others from previous years and has never been opened. Perfume, I wear in his honor and memory. I get teary-eyed when cashiers and others tell me “Happy Mother’s Day” or say Happy Mother’s Day to my mom. Sometimes I just say “thank you” and other times I briefly explain that my mother has passed away. I’m not looking for sympathy, but sometimes I find it helps others because they are going through similar grief.

Due to Corona, I’m sure many are missing their mothers this Mother’s Day as they practice social distancing. I certainly feel for these people as I feel for those who miss their mothers on Mother’s Day. And I’m sure many mothers are missing their children this Mother’s Day.

Another group of people who experience grief on Mother’s Day are those who have lost a child/children. I believe there is no pain like losing a child, whether through miscarriage or later in life. My mom couldn’t celebrate Mother’s Day again after my brother died – instead we called it “Debbie Day” so it would be respectable. It’s not necessarily something I would recommend, but it was something that worked for my mom. Infertile women also mourn on Mother’s Day because they mourn their inability to have children. I know it makes me sad when people say “Happy Mother’s Day” to me, because I don’t have children, and I never want to (at least not human children!). Luckily, I’m blessed with many fur babies, so that eases the pain a bit.

5 strategies to help you get through Mother’s Day despite feeling sad and missing moms:

1. Cherish and share memories of your mother: People have good, bad and funny memories. Think of your mother and help others who may not have known how stupid she was when you were a child. You will learn a lot about your mother that you didn’t know and have new memories to cherish! I told Mom and Dad that the cat she brought home was a male so she wanted to keep the cat, but Harvey is actually a female! Look at old photos, movies, cards and texts of your mother.

2. Do something to honor your mom: Maybe make her favorite meal. Use her favorite perfume. Light a candle in his honor. Blow bubbles to the sky for your mom. Plant a tree or flower in your mother’s honor and memory. Even when we are social distancing, the possibilities are endless!

3. Create something in your mother’s honor and memory: A good friend of mine started a program in her mother’s honor, based on her mother’s passion for helping others in need. My family and I have established and supported a scholarship for my mother in the school district where she teaches college seniors. We also donated one of his rockets to the library and they named a corner in the library to honor and remember him. Use your creativity and imagination!

4. Mother contacts you. Yes, you read that right! I said contact your mother. Talk to him. Write him a letter. Sing for him. Write a poem or a song for your mother. Contact him somehow.

5. Allow yourself to feel and express your true feelings! Cry! Yell! Laughter! Maybe, do all of the above! Your feelings are yours, not wrong! Emotions and feelings are unfiltered! Don’t try to protect others by hiding your feelings, because that will only hurt you more. As the famous song goes “Scream, scream, let it all out”!

Mother’s Day can be a joyous, festive holiday full of gratitude and love, but it can also be a complicated time for many people. For those who have lost a mother or mother figure, this day brings feelings of sadness and grief. Maybe someone in your life recently lost their mother, or maybe this is the first Mother’s Day without your own mother. Even though it’s been a few years since her passing, reading these mom quotes can offer some comfort on Mother’s Day and beyond.

Mother’s Day can be even more complicated for those who have lost their mothers, as well as the mothers themselves. It can be difficult to feel loved and appreciated when you are also experiencing pain and sorrow. When you lose a loved one, especially someone as special as your mom or dad, it can be incredibly difficult to see the reminders fill your social media feed during a holiday like this. If you have a friend or family member who has lost a mother (or are going through this loss yourself), it’s important to recognize that these days can be tough. While you may not always be able to say the perfect thing, sending them a comment to let them know you’re thinking of them can help them feel less alone in their experience of loss.

“Grief and love are connected, you can’t have one without the other. “All I can do is love her, love the world, live with courage and spirit and joy.”

“There is something about losing a mother that is permanent and inexplicable – a wound that never heals.”

“You lose someone you can’t live with and your heart breaks and the bad news is you never get over the loss of your loved one. But this is also good news. They live forever in your sealed heart. You have arrived. It’s like having a broken leg that never fully heals – it still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance easily.”

“Where you used to be, there’s a hole in the world and I find myself constantly wandering around during the day and falling through at night. I miss you like hell.”

“I think by now I should know enough about loss to realize that you never stop losing someone – you just learn to live around the huge void of their absence.”

“It is so dark when the light goes out, if it never shines.”

“My mother is the song of comfort, joy and presence in my heart. “I may forget the words sometimes, but I will always remember the melody.”

Sometimes I Miss My Office

– Mom, I miss you today, but I know that you will always be with me in my heart.

“But he wasn’t around, and when your parents die, you feel like you’re going into every game alone instead of going into every game with backup.”

“Mothers never die, they only have a home in heaven, they make the sun shine by day and the twinkling stars by night, keep the moonlight silver, and in the heavenly home above they wait to welcome their loved ones.” »
