Aita Family Demanding Rsvp Weeks Before Date On Invitation
Aita Family Demanding Rsvp Weeks Before Date On Invitation – A bride-to-be decided not to invite her autistic sister to her wedding because her disability could make things awkward for her and her husband. Now she’s bearing the brunt of her angry parents, who have asked her to stop contacting them.
Choosing your wedding guest list can be a daunting task. As a result of the pandemic, small and intimate wedding ceremonies have become the norm in many places around the world. However, it also led to division and family differences.

Something similar happened to a 22-year-old woman who had to walk down the aisle around New Year 2022. She took to Reddit to share her story on the AITA forum, where her post received nearly 2.6K comments in just 5 days.

The woman revealed she was forced to ban her 21-year-old sister Anna from her wedding because she has severe autism which affects her behaviour. In the Reddit post, she also wrote:
“[Anna] talks to the family and has quite poor cognitive skills. She can’t understand boundaries and lives with our parents so they can keep an eye on her the best (sic).”
The bride-to-be also explained that her sister communicates most of the time through physical gestures such as sign language as she feels socially awkward.

The Redditor added that she had planned a simple wedding and reception at her fiance Michael’s parents’ barn and was afraid her autistic sister might ruin her big celebration. She also mentioned the reason why she did not invite Ana:
“I sent out invitations last week and asked Anna not to come. Why not Anna? She has a problem with Michael touching and trying to kiss him (sic).”
The woman knew that if she didn’t invite Anna to her wedding, it might also affect her parents’ decision. She also added that when she and Michael were at her parents’ house, Anna always tried to be with him , holding his hand or kissing him.
Although he tried to talk to her, she knew her comprehension skills were limited. She then tried to talk to her parents and told them how important it was for her and Michael to have a normal wedding. She then revealed their reaction:

“My parents called me and let me know they weren’t coming and that it was best not to bring Michael with me anymore as I had ‘chosen a man over my sister’ (sic).
In addition, the bride-to-be’s parents also said that she was selfish because she forbade Anna and did not relate to her disabled sister, who may never have her own wedding and had a difficult life.
Her parents also said that Anna was unaware of her feelings and that her hugging and kissing Michael was normal for a woman her age. The woman even offered to hire a caregiver to take care of Anna, but her parents called her out for “mortgaging” her sister.
People were quick to share their thoughts on her post. One user wrote: “You are right. She is not in a position to leave your fiance alone on the only day he has to leave him alone. Best wishes to you and your future husband!!”

Another said: “Your fiance deserves to feel safe and comfortable at his own wedding instead of worrying about being attacked by your sister.”
What the Redditor bride went through with her family after banning her autistic sister may seem strange to some people. Yet many times family feuds inevitably follow important occasions like weddings.

When people are making wedding guest lists, it can be a difficult decision whether or not to invite estranged family members. In such cases, it is best to weigh all options. For example, would they be happy to come or would they cause a scene?
A 28-year-old New York bride, Madeline, regretted inviting her estranged aunt and uncle after they left horrible comments on her RSVP card. She made the invitation largely to please her grandmother, but it all backfired.
While it’s good to mend broken relationships and extend friend requests to people, your feelings may not always be reciprocated, which can end up ruining your special day and fueling negative feelings.
We just hope that what the Redditor bride and Madeline experienced doesn’t happen to anyone else and that everyone can enjoy their wedding day to the fullest.
