Black & White Table Settings – Oh my goodness, this holiday season has been a whirlwind! I put together this black white and gold map for our annual slava this year and thought I’d share it because it would be a great idea for New Year’s Eve too!
We had 20 people for our annual dinner at Selva, you can see previous years here and here. In case this is the first time you’ve heard of this, it’s a Serbian tradition passed down in my husband’s family that commemorates the day Christianity was introduced into the family.

Each family has a different patron saint; Ours is St. Nicholas, so our feast day falls on December 19th every year.

When you have so many people over for dinner, it should be simple. It is very possible to do while being elegant.
Although I’ve really loved the silver table we’ve created over the years, this year I wanted to shake things up by adding some glamorous accents of gold and black to the mix.
To get the look, I used the same white tablecloths I always had and these napkins. I really wanted black and white striped napkins and found these for a great price at Oriental Trading!
The reviews say not to wash them, so I put them under the plates as a decorative element and put the actual napkins on top of the plates.

Speaking of which, I got some beautiful plastic work this year! I used these sugar paper plates from Target and plates like these below. Cleaning was easy and the table still looks very nice.
Since our celebration was during the holidays, I knew I wanted to scatter some decorations on the table and throw some greenery into the mix. I used real rosemary for the napkins and business cards, which is free, smells great and adds a nice elegant touch. I also added three boxwood wreaths (similar here and here).
When all was said and done, it was pretty cheap to put together this black, white and gold seating arrangement. It can be easy to go a little overboard during the holidays, but it’s really important to keep it simple, as well as reusing your stuff.
I use the same white napkins and white tablecloths every year, and I also have a set of plates from Ikea that I use most of the time. The black and white napkins were $16 and the streamers were also cheap but made such an impact!

These tables are also quite narrow and people have been eating and drinking on them, so it’s important not to be too full.
All in all, I was pretty pleased with how easily it came together and that we got a little shaky this year!

Black And White Polka Dot Table
My Halloween table this year was actually inspired by my fall table. I loved the look, but I only made a few changes to make it a classic Halloween table.
I used about the same decor design but added these cute white and gold baby pumpkins and black doilies.
All the cute and stylish Halloween decor came from JOANN stores! I used a black and ivory table burner that I had hidden, and added some small bats, a large flying crow (which really scared my family), concrete fruit, and lots of Edison lights. That was all it took to turn this table into a magical Halloween table!
I added some texture to the table by using some herbs in the centerpiece! I even cut a few stalks from the tall grass on our fall porch this year! Cheap, that’s for sure!

I love Valentine’s Day and I think it’s the perfect way to bring all your girlfriends to the party! On a recent trip to Ikea, I found these black and white striped plate racks and fell head over heels in love. The TICKAR line has a few more swoon-worthy pieces in black and white, but I knew I already had a few at home that would compliment him nicely. So I picked up my plates and bowls and left as fast as I could. When I got home, I pulled out anything that could fit the black and white theme, and then I saw these bright pink placemats peeking out of their sale bag. Wood! A perfect Valentine’s Day dinner!
Bright pink placemats are from Tuesday morning, which can be found in the central market. The white plates are my everyday tools and the octagonal black plates are a thrift find, the chatter is an Arcoroc Octime. (By the way, Z Gallerie sells a similar pattern called Octavia in black or white, if you’re looking for octagonal portions.)
The flowers are about $5 worth of grocery store flowers in the manager’s special in 4 or 5 mason jars. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on flowers! I think these lasted almost a week, I made sure to trim them and give them fresh water every few days.
