The story was taken from an old Reddit thread.

A man refused to pay for his daughter’s marriage at the last minute because he let her parents go back to their lives.

In October 2015, several clickbait sites published stories about a revenge wedding involving a devoted husband, his disrespected wife and daughter-in-law, and his happy but dying wife:

Personal Finance Advice: My Daughter Won’t Speak To Me Because I Won’t Pay For Her Wedding

My daughter is getting married on August 3rd. Planning the wedding has taken up all of her mom and dad’s life (I say her mom because we’re not a couple, even though we’ve been together for 10 years) for the past six months. My niece graduated last December from the University. I paid for him to go to college, even though it was a public school, I still spent $40K. He has no job and has lived with us all his life through college and since graduation. I also bought him a car when he went back to school after he finished school. At the same time, his widowed wife will appear in his life and he will fall in love with her. Even though she did not contribute one iota to her education or child rearing, although that is my boyfriend’s fault as a c.s. does not fall under the rule of law but still loves him and wants him in his life. He stayed long enough to break her heart by abandoning the city and breaking some of his promises to her. The wedding venue can accommodate 250 people max. I gave them a list of 20 people that I wanted to invite, you know, because I paid for everything. They told me there was no problem and they would take care of it. So I let these people know that they will be invited and should save the day. On Saturday I saw a friend of mine at the golf course and asked if he was coming. He told me he was not invited. He told me he got an advertisement, not an invitation. He put it in the back seat (with maybe six months) and shared it with me. Of course, this is just an advertisement and my name is not on it. He has his father’s name and his mother’s name, not mine. This led to a huge fight with my GF, knowing that none of my twenty names “made the cut” for the final guest list because “250 people is too tight.” I was angry, but there wasn’t much I could do because important people in my life were hurt. My GF said “if anyone doesn’t rsvp yes I can join a few people.” But that’s the ultimate slap in the face in my opinion. So, I was angry on Saturday. Yesterday, we had a Sunday dinner together with the family of his wife and children and the unexpected guest, “Dad, really”. During this little dinner, my nephew announced that “Dad” would be able to attend his wedding and now he could provide it. It was greeted with the songs “Oh everywhere” and “Great”. I don’t think I’ve ever been more angry and disrespectful. I was shaking. It took me a few seconds to collect my thoughts, as I wasn’t sure if I should cry or start screaming or both. When I was sure I could speak, I got up from my chair and said I wanted to bake. I don’t remember exactly what I said, but the gist of it was: “I want to make a toast.” The sound of spoons in glasses at my age. “I was very happy to be part of this family for the past ten years. Oh, so sweet. “At this point in my life, I feel that I owe a debt of gratitude to the bride and groom, because they opened my eyes to something important.” Believe in exchange. “They taught me that my role in this family is not what I once thought it was.” And now a look of confusion and disappointment began to spread over his face in the room. “Although I thought of myself as the patriarch or grandfather of the family, who respects and seeks help in difficult times, it’s like holding the position of an ATM, good for those who flow, but no. Because I changed into a host, both at the banquet and at the celebration, I left my financial position to host my former Legacy, very Dad. So happy for the happy couple and the path they chose. ” I drank. “You can all put yourselves there.” Is it selfish? I need 40-50 riyals but I can’t invite people? But I’m not one of them? I do it with garbage. My niece is done, my GF is done. I sent the money to our joint bank account yesterday. (he hasn’t had a job since he moved in with me) this morning I called all the vendors I wrote checks to for a refund. Right now it looks like I’m going to lose about 1500 for the place, but the other seller is very nice about the refund. Have you ever done the same?
