Paris And Italy Honeymoon Where To First

The City of Lights — or Love, depending on who you ask — is the most classic of all honeymoon destinations. Paris, France is reputed to be where countless love stories began and is one of the most romantic cities in the world. So it’s only natural for couples to hold back after saying “yes.” Unless a Paris wedding is planned, French honeymoons in the city are just as romantic and never go out of style.

You’ve wrapped up your Paris-inspired wedding and are now ready to jet-set with your sweetheart for the real deal. But where do you even start? We spoke to Susan Moynihan, travel editor of The Honeymunist, to find out how you can plan your honeymoon like a real Parisian couple. “Go out and explore,” she says. “Paris is a city with neighborhoods (called arrondissements) that are all different from each other.” She advises couples to book a walking tour to get the most of this unique city.

Even after you’ve climbed the Eiffel Tower, seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, and walked every kilometer of the Golden Triangle, Moynihan recommends a short 45-minute train ride to the Champagne region just outside the city. Or head to Reims, another neighboring town, for “tasting tours by historic producers like Tettinger, Pommary and Ruinert; most tours include transport from Paris”. To slow down, “combine a stay in the city with a night at a country hotel like the Napa-meets-France style Royal Champagne Resort and Spa.”

Susan Moynihan of The Honeymunist is a veteran travel editor and writer who founded her travel planning company, affiliated with Virtuoso, seven years ago. He has visited 60 countries and sent clients to six continents.

Sure, it’s cold in winter, but that only gives you more excuses to snuggle up in your honey while sitting by the Seine with a baguette and bottle of wine, and more reasons to hold hands while you’re under the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame or the Latin Quarter or around Le Marais.

Summer is perfect for picnicking and sunbathing, as is the pool at the legendary Hotel Molitor. Of course, the shopping is also good enough that it might put you off – and you should probably get a chance to play Peyton, too.

For shopping, Moynihan recommends keeping an eye out for the “sale season,” which takes place for a few weeks each January and June. “Everyone is clearing out their inventory, from department stores like Printemps and Galeries Lafayette to small boutiques. You will find crowds but you can find some great deals.”

If you’re coming in the summer, ask your hotel about air conditioning as it doesn’t have it and it can get very hot.

First-time visitors often look for locations in an area called the Golden Triangle, near the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées. “But when you live in a small neighborhood, the city becomes a lot more intimate,” Moynihan said. “I love the Marais for its beautiful historic square, Saint-Germain-des-Prés for its cool boutiques and great food, and a peaceful, artsy enclave with stunning views over Paris.” Paris is home to some of the most luxurious boutique hotels you can dream of

Days In Paris: With Expert Local Tips!

“JK Place Paris is the hottest place in Paris,” says Moynihan. “The first J.K. hotel outside of Italy has a glamorous cult following and lesser celebrity guests.” Florentine architect Michel Bonan, who designed four J.K. Place Hotels have set up spacious rooms with the look of a Parisian flea market.

“The Grand Powers is a beautifully designed 1920s Haussmannian hotel right on the Golden Triangle, but with much better rates than its larger, fancier neighbors,” says Moynihan. Grand Powers offers a blend of 1920’s heritage and modern luxury, with preserved crown molding and antique fireplaces in a timeless, cozy and bright ambience.

Artful yet tasteful, the Four Seasons Hotel George V is filled with exquisite floral arrangements that seem to perfume your entire stay. (Their new restaurant, L’Orangerie, now has a Michelin star.)

A five-star luxury château, “Cour des Vosges is an eclectic romantic hotel on the exclusive Place du Vosges in the Marais; it feels like a secret,” says Moynihan. According to the hotel’s website, “The Cour des Vosges immediately invites you to immerse yourself in the life of a 16th-century French noble family.”

Incredible Budget Honeymoon Destinations In Europe

Arguably less glamorous but no less opulent is the design boutique Hotel Les Bains, which attracted the likes of Andy Warhol and Mick Jagger decades ago and now seems like the perfect solution for couples looking for the intimate hotel (it only has 39 rooms) attracts great tastes – personal think terraces, vintage crystal and a hammam.

No conversation about hotels is complete without The Peninsula Paris, a dreamy option with some of the most spacious rooms and the best views in Paris, just steps from the Champs-Élysées. It’s interesting enough just staying on the property — particularly if you book the Garden Suite Duplex with its own rooftop terrace — but their concierge can also arrange memorable experiences like a picnic in the grounds of Versailles, a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II ride , book dinner, or a helicopter tour of Champagne (remember, it’s a place not just in your dreams!).

The legendary Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel was renovated over four years to accommodate King Louis XV. to bring the building commissioned in 1758 up to the historical state of the art. A honeymoon in a majestic palace is enough, but imagine swimming in a pool adorned with thousands of gold scales or sleeping in a suite designed by Karl Lagerfeld. After all, you’re in Paris but don’t want to leave the room – and that’s totally fine too.

While it can be difficult for someone to let go and see where your whereabouts are taking you, the best things about Paris seem to come out of nowhere, and for that reason it’s a place where no itinerary is sometimes the best itinerary. It’s a place you don’t want to get lost in, especially when exploring the far-flung arrondissements.

Moynihan said the walking tour was essential. “I Love Paris, led by an American expat chef and longtime Parisian, with great food tours.” He recommends scholarly, intensive, small-group tours from Context Tours. They offer experiences that focus on topics ranging from art to the Nazi occupation of World War II.

Some things you might want to check ahead of time, like when the museum opens if you’re dying to find the Mona Lisa in the Louvre, or check out Monet’s ornate water lilies at the Musée de l’Orangerie. Both make for a super romantic and unforgettable honeymoon date in France.

Of course, climbing the Eiffel Tower is on the itinerary of every couple going to Paris. But for an incredible view

For popular attractions like the Louvre or the Musée d’Orsay, Moynihan recommends booking a tour with a Fast Pass ticket to avoid long lines.

It’s also worth planning when you eat, especially if you’ve got an eye – or a stomach – on the precursors to romantic French cuisine like Epicure, Le Cinque and Le Jules Verne.

An unforgettable candlelight dinner does not need a large budget. Clio offers beautiful, sophisticated food at less outrageous prices, and the charming and dimly lit Viola is another restaurant with beautiful dishes at reasonable prices.

“You have to do a classic French bistro, like Josephine Chez Dumont or Café des Muses,” says Moynihan, “both with Belle Epoque roots and classic dishes like beef bourguignon and sole meunier (the food that made Julia Child create herself to fall in love with French cooking).”

If you want dinner to literally take you on a journey, hop on Le Bustronome, a real bus with a restaurant inside where you can see Paris while you eat. And of course there are also many options along the river. Bottom Line: It’s almost impossible not to be mesmerized by the historic city’s night scene.
