All In One Cloth Diaper Pattern – I use reusable diapers for both of my babies. They save money and prevent an average of 4,000 disposable diapers per child from ending up in landfills. Not really as scary as people tell me, and more hassle (2-3 extra laundry a week). They look good too. As with all types of baby gear, there are tons of options to choose from, from the old but cheap and functional systems to the more convenient but often more expensive all-in-one or modern packs.

After trying out a few designs, I thought I’d make my own and came up with this Nappy pattern.

This design makes a large size diaper (it fits my 10 month old girl and I want her to be potty trained). I decided on an all-in-one pocket/diaper because I wanted it to dry quickly, but be easy enough for travel and changing.

I made the design in one large piece and sewed on the label to save material usage. With this pattern, 4 or 5 diapers (depending on the width of the fabric) can be made from half a meter of PUL, which is useful as it can be very expensive.

The variety of fabrics used to make diapers can be complex and it can be difficult whether you make your own or buy diapers. This is a really good guide from the Real Nappy Campaign to regular nappy brands. I have found that there is no perfect combination and no matter what you choose, some kind of compromise needs to be made. If you’re looking for really absorbent diapers, that usually means choosing ones that are sturdy, take a long time to dry, or aren’t comfortable (one or two pieces, need to be folded, etc.).

I used a combination of things I already had (old towels, microfiber tea towels from the pound shop) and materials I bought from Plush Addict, one of the best PUL options I’ve found in the UK.

Absorbent Material – For the optional absorbent pad, I used 3 layers of microfiber terrycloth (highly absorbent yet quick drying, perfect for use as part of an all-over design). Then I made boosters (rectangular grip pads) out of cotton towels and burlap.

Stay-Dry Material – The diaper liner is made of stay-dry material that wicks moisture away from baby’s skin. I used suede fabric, but you can also use lightweight microfleece fabric.

Water Resistant Materials – PUL or Polyester/Polyurethane Laminated Knit. This is probably the most expensive thing, especially if you want to use print design.

Poppers vs Velcro/Applix – I prefer poppers to diapers because I hate how velcro picks up fluff and sticks together in the wash, which keeps the diaper looking good for longer. It’s also hard for babies to get their diapers off (meaning putting them on and off is more difficult). Some people prefer Velcro because it can be adjusted for a better fit.

1) Print the pattern pieces and assemble them. (Print pattern in original size on A4 paper, do not resize to fit printer margins. Use the edge of the paper as a guide to assemble the pattern. Nappy pattern

2) Cutting swatches: Piece 1, PUL piece B piece 2, Piece 1 piece, B piece 2 pieces, suede-like membrane. You can also use the dotted lines on the pattern as a guide for cutting blocks of your optional absorbent pad material. I used 3 rectangles of microfiber terry cloth.

3) The next step is to put the briefs in front of the diaper (as doing this after doing the diaper would be too boring). If you don’t have KAM spring pliers or prefer Velcro fastening, you can use them easily – and probably quickly.

Use the pattern marks to place the snaps, it’s also a good idea to add a small piece of chamois fabric behind the snap panel to reinforce the area and make sure the PUL is not damaged due to wear and tear and the durability of tightening and loosening. snaps.

4) Sew piece B to piece A and then PUL piece B to PUL piece A with right sides together along the seam line.

5) If using an absorbent pad, secure the layers on the back side of the lining fabric.

6) Secure the PUL sheet to the lining sheet and the right side. To avoid damaging the PUL, make sure the pin is close to the edge of the seam allowance. Start and finish piecing together at the points marked with blue squares on the pattern.

7) Use the red circle marked in the picture as the starting and ending point of the leg stiffness. The elastic should be sewn into the seam allowance between the red marks using a zigzag stitch. Once the seams are in place, the elastic should be pulled as tight as possible to ensure that the leg opening fits the child.

8) The entire diaper can now be turned inside out. Sew up about 5-6mm from the edge, all the way leaving a gap between the green marks.

9) To finish the pocket opening (between the blue marks), sew the elastic to the PUL and the edges of the lining using backstitching.

10) To finish the diaper, add contrasting snaps to the tab section. (or Velcro) Obviously to seal the sewing holes in the PUL, you can put the diaper in a tumble dryer on low heat. (I don’t have a tumble dryer and the holes didn’t cause any leaks)

As PUL printing options are very limited and expensive in the UK, it is also possible to use plain PUL and add a layer of cotton printing on top. Since cotton is an absorbent fabric, moisture tends to wick from the diaper to the print, causing leaks. To reduce this, you can use a method called the Chelory method.

I’m a little brainwashed, but it’s totally up to me! Then I sent them an email and they replied and explained to me and I felt like an idiot thinking oh my god why didn’t I understand hahaha! But they were nice and willing to help, even if it was my brain freeze, when they explained it I realized that I just read the pattern wrong and it wasn’t wrong at all haha and after that 8 diapers came out. in no time And it’s perfect ~ I added the gussets too. Thank you for an amazing mod, I will use it again and again! I highly recommend this model, customer service far exceeds 5 stars! ! They are beautiful! !

Very impressed with this pattern! I pretty much followed the instructions, but I tried to adjust the gussets to have a nice French seam to hide the raw edges (I know it’s not practical, just my OCD), and to insert the Seam face I created to add some strength. in it. I’m looking forward to getting the velcro I ordered and trying it out too!

Pocket diapers are great for use and testing different inserts! I can’t wait to try it 😉
