Watercolor: 10 Easy Projects Anyone Can Paint
This time I’m creating a rainbow background that you can leave as is or use as a background for your text.
I put my watercolor bookmarks on an old plastic cutting board here. You can paint the paper on any hard surface. This not only helps keep the paper down while you paint, it also prevents the paper from fighting the excess water we’re going to add.
To work quickly, paint each colored area separately with plenty of water. The water will naturally mix and blend the colors.
For this brine method, it is very important that the paper and water be wet, not just wet. The more water you leave on the paper, the more dramatic the salt effect.

This step friends is where I often fail! Let it dry. Do not try to remove the salt before the watercolor dries! This will only reduce the effect of the salt. Let the salt dry for more than a few minutes for the best effect. This time I let it dry overnight.
After the paint dries, you can easily remove the salt with your fingers. You may notice that the salt is trying to stick to the paper, but if you do, the paper will break.
Here is another example I made in my sketchbook. This rainbow-colored body of water attracts great attention due to its salinity.
This same sketchbook I have used in my previous work, such as the Strathmore Mixed Media sketchbook, eg SIMPLE WATER PEN FLOWERS: STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL.

Salt works somehow. The area where the salt touches the paper will be lighter in color. The salt will force the color of the water and therefore the bright area will be surrounded by a dark shade. All this happens in a few minutes and looks natural and beautiful!
Here I tried to experiment using iodized salt and fancy sea salt. Both salts seem to work for this recipe!
This technique works with most watercolors I’ve used, but always test it on a small area first to make sure it works.
Water paper! It is very important to use quality waterproof paper. The water color needs to be nice and watery for the salt, so the paper you use should be able to hold water without cracking or tearing easily.

One of the best tips to prevent warping is to tap your paper (or sketchbook edge) while painting and let it dry completely in the first step before peeling off the paper. This causes the paper to dry out.

These are simple painting ideas that will definitely power your brush and inspire you, but I’m saving the best (my favourite) for last.
Ideas For Your Next Watercolor Painting
Yes, there are many things we can use to guide ourselves when we start painting. Overthinking is a terrible tool for procrastination. But let’s clear one hurdle by giving you a few simple painting ideas to get you started.
I think these are all great things to paint because it’s so easy to be fearless but still interesting to make beautiful pictures.
Honestly, there is so much you can draw that even if you’re a beginner, it’s endless. I guess that’s part of the reason why it’s hard to choose, and that’s why I forced myself to stick with just 7.
Just select the first item from this list and continue with it. Starting with the actual painting is more important than what you choose to paint.

I think it’s nice to start with something with a simple texture. And my absolute beginner pick is that the simple build is very uniform and uneven. I highly recommend fruits and vegetables as an easy to paint subject.
Bright bright colors, cute and bright and very forgiving. If your horseradish ends up over the edge or your paprika has an extra bump — who can say it’s not nature’s way of designing it? Actually, I like more of a personal touch.
If painting fruit is for you and you want instructional videos, references and a downloadable pdf, I have a tutorial for you… How about this juicy cherry?

Try the ink and wash method. Start by drawing with a pencil. Change the subject with a waterproof pen and spray with liquid watercolor – how fun!
In the same place, I think flowers are good subjects for painting. Especially if you want to spend more time in drawing.
Also, the flowers aren’t perfect either. Well – they are, but not with a properly designed person. Some leaves are slightly darkened by the sun, others are suffocated by insects. So you can relax and let your image unfold as it is.

If full painting isn’t for you, look at the flowers in vases. Let go and enjoy.
One of my first series of paintings was potted plants. When you want to take on one of the more symmetrical themes, a flower pot is the perfect start. And you have the pleasure of adding the decorations you want to the pot.
